Why we built Clerra
Canadian accounting firms run on deadlines that never stop moving — T1, T2, T3, GST/HST, payroll remittances, T4/T5, instalments, and a different set of provincial rules on top. Most firms hold it together with spreadsheets, calendar reminders, and memory. The tools that promised to help were built for somewhere else, priced by the seat, and never quite fit the Canadian reality.
We built Clerra to be the calm, dependable system underneath all of it: every CRA and provincial deadline computed automatically, recurring work that runs itself, and a client portal your clients actually use — with your firm's data kept in Canada. One platform, one flat price, for the whole firm.

Clerra is designed and built by Common Good Labs Inc., a Canadian software studio with one guiding conviction: the essential tools people depend on for their work should be dependable, fairly priced, and made to last.
We started Common Good Labs because so much business software is built for the wrong audience. It's shaped by investor targets and pricing spreadsheets — capabilities locked behind tiers, prices that climb with every seat, roadmaps that chase whatever's fashionable this quarter. The people actually doing the work come last. We wanted to build the opposite: software that earns its place by making real work genuinely better, and then keeps earning it, year after year.
The name is the mission. “Common good” means we measure ourselves by whether our products serve the people who rely on them — not by how much we can extract from them. So we build a small number of tools and support them for the long term. We'd rather do a few things exceptionally well, for years, than chase every trend and do them all poorly. And we answer to the firms who use our software, not to outside shareholders.
